The Sun Devils finished up their regular season with a demoralizing loss to No. 6 Iowa State, but the Big 12 Tournament looms. They'll face Baylor tomorrow in the first round of the conference tourney, but the team made headlines this afternoon for a different reason.

Hurley's contract expires on June 30.
Hurley is 184-166 and went to 3 NCAA tournaments with the Sun Devils. ASU plays tomorrow against Baylor in first round of Big 12 tourney.

While both Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68 and Pete Nakos of On3 reported the anticipated split between Bobby Hurley and Arizona State as if it's already a done deal, no actual decision has been made.
Hurley's contract is set to expire this summer - in June, specifically - and the expectation for nearly a year has been that he won't get an extension. Many believed that only an NCAA Tournament berth could save Hurley's job, but at 16-15 with a 7-11 Big 12 record, that seems unlikely.
Still, the Sun Devils remain focused on what's ahead of them. which is the Big 12 Tournament. The players and coaches are looking forward to facing Baylor, who actually finished a game behind them in the conference standings. Any discussions around Hurley's future won't happen until afterwards.
Bobby Hurley has shared with some people close to him that he believes he won't be retained as ASU's coach, sources tell @SunDevilSource. He and Graham Rossini will meet after ASU is out of the Big 12 Tournament.https://t.co/4JOA08RHek
— Chris Karpman (@ChrisKarpman) March 9, 2026
Chris Karpman of 247Sports confirmed that Hurley will meet with athletics director Graham Rossini once the Sun Devils are done with the Big 12 Tournament. However, at this point, there have been no formal discussions regarding Hurley's future in Tempe.
Karpman does, however, report that Hurley expects not to be retained. That's not exactly a surprise given Hurley's many candid comments throughout this past year, but Karpman's sources shared that the coach has been cleaning out his office for the past two weeks.
The same report also indicates that Rossini has retained a search firm to build a list of candidates in the event that the job does come open. As expected, all signs point towards Hurley no longer coaching the Sun Devils after this week.
Still, though, nothing is official despite multiple misleading reports from national insiders that aren't on the ground in Tempe.
