Tyson becomes the highest wide receiver pick from the Sun Devils football program since J.D. Hill, who was selected at fourth overall by the Buffalo Bills in the 1971 NFL Draft.
Additionally, he becomes the highest overall pick from Arizona State since cornerback Mike Haynes, who was drafted at fifth overall by the New England Patriots in 1976 and went on to become a Pro Football Hall of Famer.
During his collegiate career, Tyson played for the Sun Devils' football program for three seasons and was one of the key contributors to the team's Big 12 Championship run and first appearance in the College Football Playoff in 2024.
After Tyson declared for the 2026 NFL Draft in December, head coach Kenny Dillingham praised him for being a "special person" while making big-time plays on Arizona State's offensive end.
After being chosen by the Saints, Tyson went through all the emotions and told the reporter, "I'm gonna give it my all, and that's all I can do."
New Orleans also has familiar players with ties to the state of Arizona, quarterbacks Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough, who attended Pinnacle and Hamilton, respectively.
Tyson joins the New Orleans Saints, who haven't appeared in the NFL Playoffs since longtime quarterback Drew Brees retired at the end of the 2020 season.
Jordyn's older brother, Cleveland Cavaliers guard/forward Jaylon Tyson, was selected at 20th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft.
With Jordyn joining the Saints as a top-10 pick on Thursday, they become the first brothers to be first-round picks in the NBA & NFL Draft, via Brad Denny of AZ Family.
To add to Tyson's special night, his teammate, offensive tackle Max Iheanachor, was selected at 21st overall of the 2026 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are the host city of the event.
For the first time since 2001 and 2003, respectively, Arizona State has two players to be selected in the first round of the same draft, and Tyson became the first Sun Devil to be chosen in the top ten since Terrell Suggs.
Since his hiring in 2023, Dillingham has made a significant impact on Arizona State's football program. He has energized the Valley and played a pivotal role in the program's historic presence in the 2026 NFL Draft.
