Exhale, Sun Devil fans. Offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo will remain in Tempe and not make the jump to the NFL after interviewing for the quarterbacks coach position with the New York Giants in recent days.

Instead, New York is hiring former Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan to fill the position and coordinate the team's passing strategy, per NFL insider Ian Rapaport.

Arroyo, 46, would've been the third ASU product in the last five years to land in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Former Sun Devil defensive tackle D.J. Davidson was drafted by the Giants in 2022, becoming the 10th player from the program to be selected by the team and the first since 1992. And, of course, running back Cam Skattebo was taken in the third round of the 2025 draft and quickly proved himself a staple of the new generation Giants.

Sun Devil football retains key offensive strategist entering 2026 offseason

Arizona State put up Top 5 offenses in the Big 12 over the last two seasons under Arroyo's leadership. That was mostly due to the talents of stars like Skattebo, quarterback Sam Leavitt and wideout Jordyn Tyson. The latter of the three is slated to be a first-round pick in April.

Apart from also serving as the head coach at UNLV from 2020-22, Arroyo had a brief stint in the NFL as a QB coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2014.

Now head coach Kenny Dillingham can focus on the 2026 offseason with more clarity as he keeps the team's top offensive strategist in Tempe. The development is especially critical given the Sun Devils will have an interesting QB competition entering spring ball.

Kentucky transfer Cutter Boley and true freshman Jake Fette will battle for the starting duties and fans should be excited about either option.

Boley, a rising sophomore, threw for 2,160 yards, 15 touchdowns and 12 interceptions for the Wildcats in 2025. He'll be hoping the transition from facing SEC defenses to the, at times, defense optional Big 12 will be beneficial.

On the other side, Fette - a four-star recruit from Texas - will offer another dual threat option for Dillingham and Arroyo following the departure of two-year starter Sam Leavitt to LSU.

Arroyo will gladly have his hands full with the talented pair and should have either one ready for Week 1 against Morgan State.
