Arizona State football is becoming a popular source of talent for one NFL team. The New York Giants reportedly interviewed Sun Devil offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo for their open quarterbacks coach position, per insider Mike Garafolo.
If hired, Arroyo would be the third ASU product in the last five years to land in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Former Sun Devil defensive tackle D.J. Davidson was drafted by the Giants in 2022, becoming the 10th player from the program to be selected by the team and the first since 1992. Of course, running back Cam Skattebo was taken in the third round of the 2025 draft and quickly proved himself a staple of the new generation Giants.
The connection to Skattebo could be a driver in New York's interest in Arroyo. The 46-year-old landed in Tempe in 2024 and was responsible for the Sun Devils' explosive offense - which featured Skattebo heavily and drove the team to a Big 12 title and College Football Playoff appearance.
What the New York Giants would be getting in hiring Marcus Arroyo
Arizona State put up Top 5 offenses in the Big 12 over the last two seasons under Arroyo's leadership. That was mostly due to the talents of stars like Skattebo, quarterback Sam Leavitt and wideout Jordyn Tyson. The latter of the three is slated to be a first-round pick in April (New York owns the No. 5 overall selection).
If brought in as QB coach, Arroyo would be working closely with second-year starter Jaxson Dart. Arroyo's time with Leavitt must've caught Giants head coach John Harbaugh's attention and perhaps with the recent hire of offensive coordinator Matt Nagy he feels a need to have someone familiar with Skattebo's talents inside the building.
Dart and Leavitt have very similar qualities. They both are dual-threat QBs and work well in a play-action system. That has been Arroyo's specialty in Tempe and adds to his appeal for New York's offensive desires.
Arroyo also helped coach Oregon's Justin Herbert when he was QB coach and offensive coordinator in Eugene from 2017-19. That's another significant notch in his belt that Harbaugh must've noticed.
Apart from also serving as the head coach at UNLV from 2020-22, Arroyo had a brief stint in the NFL as a QB coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2014.
At the end of the day, ASU fans shouldn't worry about any imminent departures. It was just an interview and there's been no further reporting that Arroyo is the favorite for the job. That being said, I'm sure the entire fanbase would be happy for him and would wish him well on the career advancement.
