Officially, Marcus Adams Jr. has entered the NCAA transfer portal as of March 19, 2026, and with it, officially terminated his stay with the Arizona State Sun Devils men's basketball. He made this decision after a difficult season that was severely affected by injury.

Marginal Effect at Arizona State

Adams came to Arizona State with great promises and failed to find a stable position. A back injury eventually put him on the sidelines in the last two months of the 202526 season, which greatly reduced his time on the court.

He played in 14 games in the season, and his final game was on January 3 against Colorado. During those appearances, he scored 3.6 on average and 2.4 rebounds in 11.8 per game. His shooting statistics were indicative of the tough season as he ended at 34.1 percent of field and at 29.6 percent of three-point shots.

An Encouraging But Unfulfilled College Experience

Before his enrollment at Arizona State, Adams was considered a four-star recruit out of Narbonne High. But, in a very brief span of time, his college life has been subject to several twists.

As a student, he only played a single game in the 202324 season of the BYU Cougars men's basketball before redshirting. Then, he joined the Cal State Northridge Matadors men's basketball team in 202425, and gave a breakout performance.

During that campaign, Adams played an average of 16.1 points and 4.9 rebounds a game and received All-Big West Second-Team accolades with an unbelievable 39.5 percent shooting percentage beyond the arc.

Despite his recent setbacks, Adams has already shown his potential at the collegiate level. Going through the transfer portal will give him one more chance to get the right fit, recover from it, and pursue his development.
