Martin is expected to join the Sun Devils as a senior defensive assistant, with an expectation to work with the secondary alongside Bryan Carrington. The hire reunites him with Kenny Dillingham, with whom he had worked on the 2022 season at Oregon. Most recently, Martin was the secondary coach and pass game coordinator of UCLA in 2025.
The projected recruitment follows the ongoing investment of Arizona State in its football program. Dillingham had just signed a contract extension that raised the assistant coaching payroll of the program to around 11 million, which offers it the flexibility to poach veteran coaches with good resumes, such as Martin.
Comprehensive Experience in Coaching
Martin is almost a Power Five coach of the defensive backs with almost 20 years of experience. He has worked at Washington, UCLA, Arizona, Colorado, Oregon, and Michigan State, and has become known as a skilled recruiter and specialist in the second team.
In the case of the deal going through, the addition of Martin would enhance the Arizona State defensive staff. As the Sun Devils gear up to play the 2026 season under the leadership of Dillingham.
