During the 24-19 victory of Arizona State over Iowa State on November 1, 2025, tight end Chamon Metayer gave one of the most important offensive contributions of the game, which stabilized the passing game and made the game-winning touchdown, shifting the momentum of the game entirely in the direction of the Sun Devils.
Metayer finished as ASU’s leading receiver, recording six receptions for 68 yards and one touchdown. The greatest moment was later in the second quarter when the game was at a draw of 10-10.
Metayer made room in the middle of the field, and on a 56-yard, 8 drive, he caught an 18-yard touchdown pass to make Arizona State score 17-10. Iowa State responded with a touchdown of its own, but a missed extra point left the Sun Devils in the lead, 17–16, which they never gave up during the rest of the game.
Quarterback Jeff Sims had the national spotlight with his record-breaking 228 rushing yards. But Metayer remained consistent in the passing game, which ensured that Iowa State did not overpower the run game. His talents in turning major downs into sustained drives and keeping the offensive pace through some critical spans of the game.
Besides his receiving figures, Metayer was admired for his physical blocking, which contributed a lot to the success of Sims in rushing. Metayer proved himself to be one of the most useful players on the field as one of the rare contributors as a receiver and a run-game enforcer in a hard-fought conference win.
