ASU RB Cam Skattebo is only Sun Devil to earn NFL Combine invitation

Cam Skattebo earned the respect of college football pundits this season and now he'll look to impress NFL scouts ahead of the draft in April.

The 2025 NFL Combine is set to be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana from Feb. 24-March 3. Per a release from the league, 329 prospects earned invitations to the formal scouting workouts.

Only one player from Arizona State made the cut (surprisingly) and Sun Devil fans could've probably guessed who a long time ago. Running back Cam Skattebo will represent Tempe in Indianapolis, looking to impress NFL scouts and improve his draft stock.

The senior who transferred from FCS Sacramento State in 2023 absolutely took the college football world by storm in 2024, finishing behind just Boise State's Ashton Jeanty (a Heisman Trophy finalist) in all-purpose yards (2,316) and scoring 24 total touchdowns (a new ASU record).

Despite missing out on national recognition (he finished fifth in the Heisman voting), Skattebo put on an offensive clinic during ASU's 2OT loss to Texas at the Peach Bowl in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal. If he didn't have the attention of the country before then, he certainly has become a household name now.

Cam Skattebo deserves more draft hype than he's getting

If there's anything Skattebo has proved in the past two seasons with ASU, it's that he's a Swiss army knife just waiting to be utilized in the NFL. Sure, he may be small (5' 11", 215 pounds) but the way he's built and plays should remind pro scouts of some of the league's best talents.

Skattebo just cannot be brought down. His yards after contact were second only to Jeanty and that was demonstrated through his insane balance skills and the fact that his legs just do not stop moving until he's forced to the turf. To some he looks like Marshawn Lynch in a Kyle Juszczyck frame.

Scouts should get to see Skattebo's abilities up close and personal in Indianapolis and hopefully some general managers take the time to interview him. Sun Devil fans know the kind of work ethic he displays and that should be a gigantic green flag for teams.

Most mock drafts don't have Skattebo on their radars unless it's deep after the third round. He deserves to be drafted higher but the disrespect should only fuel him more like it did last season. Whichever team selects him is going to get a future utility star at a bargain price.
