Our panel is starting to believe again

The Sun Devils got back into the Associated Press Top 25 following their win over TCU, albeit barely. Clocking in at No. 25, Arizona State still isn't getting much respect. However, the Devils in Detail panel has a little more confidence in this team, as reflected by our latest Top 25.

1. Ohio State Buckeyes

It was business as usual for the Buckeyes, mowing down Washington on the road this weekend. The Ohio State defense looks imposing right now, and the offense is just good enough to score somewhat consistently.

2. Oregon Ducks

Oregon made a statement with their overtime win over previous number two Penn State. It wasn't a runaway, but the Ducks stepped up in big moments in their first real test of the year.

3. Miami Hurricanes

Miami moves up during their bye week, thanks to an LSU loss.

4. Penn State Nittany Lions

It's not much of a tumble for Penn State, nor should it be. They lost, yes, but the Nittany Lions took Oregon to double overtime. That's the first time anyone has taken the Ducks to overtime in the Dan Lanning era.

5. LSU Tigers

Controversy time! LSU fell to Ole Miss, losing by five in a game that was marred by offensive miscues all day long. Despite that, they only drop two spots and remain ahead of the team who beat them.

6. Ole Miss Rebels

No team saw a higher jump than Ole Miss, firmly breaking into the top 10, yet they're still just behind the team they beat to get here. Perhaps it's due to the uncertainty at quarterback for the Rebels.

7. Indiana Hoosiers

Indiana continues to rise in the opinions of our panel. They didn't blow out Iowa, but they proved something they couldn't do last year: win close games. Against a program that's known for gutting out these kinds of contests, that's notable.

8. Texas Longhorns

Texas moves up a spot despite their bye week, largely thanks to the faltering of Georgia.

9. Oklahoma Sooners

Oklahoma drops a spot during their bye week, no doubt due to the news that quarterback John Mateer will miss multiple games with an injury to his throwing hand.

10. Georgia Bulldogs

Another year, another upset loss to Alabama. The Bulldogs were upset by the Crimson Tide, who still reside lower on this list. Make it make sense.

11. Texas A&M Aggies

Texas A&M's gritty win over Auburn proved two things: the Aggies defense is legit, and the offense has several serious questions.

12. Iowa State Cyclones

Iowa State remains the frontrunner in the Big 12, at least according to our panel, even after their bye week.

13. Alabama Crimson Tide

The Crimson Tide were sitting near the bottom of our poll for several weeks, but upsetting Georgia for the second year in a row has prompted a sizable jump. Will it last, though?

14. Texas Tech Red Raiders

Coming off a statement win over Utah, the Red Raiders enjoyed their bye as they prepare for a road game against fellow undefeated Big 12 team Houston.

15. Tennessee Volunteers

Tennessee survived a scare against Mississippi State and handed the Bulldogs their first loss of the year, needing overtime to do it.

16. Vanderbilt Commodores

Vanderbilt blew out Utah State and continues to look like a real SEC team. Up next: an Alabama team they upset last year. Get your popcorn, folks.

17. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

Georgia Tech nearly became another ranked team to lose this past week, needing overtime to top Wake Forest by just one point.

18. Missouri Tigers

Missouri returned to form, predictably crushing UMass without really telling us anything new about them.

19. Michigan Wolverines

Michigan had a bye, and will get head coach Sherrone Moore back on the sidelines next week against Wisconsin following his suspension.

20. BYU Cougars

Colorado gave BYU a real scare, leading through three quarters at home. The Cougars found a way to pull ahead in the end, though, and remain undefeated on the year.

21. Arizona State Sun Devils

Arizona State is now 2-0 in the Big 12, better than where they were at this point last year, when they won the conference. The fact that the Sun Devils still haven't even looked like a great team may suggest they're just getting warmed up.

22. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Welcome to .500, Notre Dame! The Fighting Irish beat Arkansas so bad they fired their coach and replaced him with a guy they fired for cause over a decade ago. That's a sign of a great win.

23. Utah Utes

Utah responded to their tough loss a week ago by absolutely stomping West Virginia in front of their own fans. That's hardly a flex, but it's an encouraging return to form for the Utes.

24. Illinois Fighting Illini

Illinois bounced back from their blowout loss to Indiana by edging out USC at home. The Illini staved off a fourth quarter comeback, beating the Trojans by just two when all was said and done.

25. USC Trojans

Speaking of, USC claims our final spot despite the loss. It was really close, but the Trojans played Illinois just close enough to gain a slight advantage with our panel.
