Arizona State saw its first player selected in the 2025 NFL Draft on Saturday. Running back Cam Skattebo was picked third in the fourth round by the New York Giants (105th overall), becoming the first Sun Devil to come off the board.

Skattebo recorded 2,316 all-purpose yards (second in the nation) and 24 total touchdowns (an ASU record) in 2024. Those incredibly impressive feats helped lead the team from a projected 16th place Big 12 Conference finish to a College Football Playoff berth.

The 23-year-old, who transferred from FCS Sacramento State to Tempe in 2023, was seen tearing up after hearing his name called by Super Bowl XLVI champion wide receiver Victor Cruz, surrounded by family and friends in Chandler.

Cam Skattebo could be the steal of the 2025 NFL Draft for New York Giants

Skattebo was originally mocked by several experts to be selected in the third round, so seeing him slip to day three of the draft was quite surprising for some Sun Devil fans.

But the Giants benefitted from that slight fall to snag a human wrecking ball of a running back to tandem with 2024 rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr., who finished third among all first-year rushers last season (839 yards). Skattebo could be the change-of-pace back New York has been looking for since before the Saquon Barkley era.

During the four year period in which New York won two Super Bowls, its backfield featured the rock-em, sock-em duo of Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw. While Tracy and Skattebo don't have their size, the speed and physicality they exhibit could fit head coach Brian Daboll's thunder-and-lightning offense.

Skattebo was insanely hard to bring down for opposing defenses. His legs don't stop churning, reminding many of former Seahawks legend Marshawn Lynch. His pass-catching abilities make him a dual-threat out of the backfield, something Barkley was also good at in his time as a Giant.

The Giants needed more offensive weapons for QBs Russell Wilson and presumed heir Jaxson Dart, so Skattebo is exactly the surgical back that could ignite a deadly combination.
