Arizona State baseball will be making its way up US-93 North to face the University of Nevada Las Vegas on Tuesday for the second half of its home-and-home series. The two played on March 4 at Phoenix Municipal Stadium, a 7-0 victory for the Sun Devils.
ASU is coming off a successful Big 12 home series against the No. 22-ranked Kansas Jayhawks in which the team took two of three games off its conference opponent. They'll be looking to keep the good times rolling against the Runnin' Rebels before heading into the weekend for a three-game road trip against Utah.
The Sun Devils' pitching staff has been relatively solid through the first 24 games of the season and they'll need to stay on high alert against UNLV. Four of their opponent's batters are hitting at a clip higher than .350 this season: Gunnar Myro (.371), Dean Toigo (.367), Cole Koniarsky (.364) andJP Hefft (.352).
ASU has some impressive batting of its own, however. Nu'u Contrades hit a walk-off home run in Sunday's series-clinching 7-6 win. He's now batting .294 on the season with 25 hits, 10 of them being for extra bases. Kyle Walks leads the lineup in hitting this season, batting .353 with the currently injured Kien Vu behind him at .333.
This should be a very winnable game for the Sun Devils.
