High School – National dominance

Browning burst onto the scene as a sophomore at Folsom High School from the beginning, throwing for 689 yards and a state-record 10 touchdown passes in his first career start. The sophomore signal caller would finish the season with 5,248 yards with a touchdown to interception ratio of 63/16.

This was only the beginning of Browning’s dominance at Folsom as he would finish his career as one of the best high school quarterbacks of all-time. In his final season, Browning set a national record in touchdowns in a season with 91.

The Folsom native also set California records with 1,191 completions for 16,775 yards, all state records, and 229 total touchdowns through the air, a state and national record, in a total of three seasons. Browning rounded out his senior year throwing for 5,790 yards, 91 touchdowns, with only seven interceptions.

With his performance on the field, Browning earned national recognition through a variety of awards including:

  • Member of Parade All-America Team
  • USA Today’s All-USA first team Gatorade player of the year for California as both a junior and senior
  • USA Today state offensive player of the year for California
  • PrepStar Dream Team selection
  • CalHiSports Mr. California in 2014
  • Max Preps.com first-team All-American
  • California Division 1 player of the year

ESPN ranked Browning the No. 10 recruit in his state and the No. 5 pocket passer in the nation. Browning received interest from eight schools including Alabama, Utah, and Boise State but ultimately chose the University of Washington after being recruited by now Oregon State head coach Jonathan Smith.
