A big weekend ahead for ASU Basketball as the women’s team will look to continue their strong play as they host the Washington Huskies. Also, the ASU hockey team is back in action as they are in Ohio taking on the dangerous Ohio State Buckeyes. Finally, in case you missed it, a recap of ASU Basketball’s latest victory. Here is the ASU Sun Devils Daily Weekend Edition.

“The 8-8 Washington State Cougars traveled to Tempe Friday afternoon to take on No. 19 Arizona State for what should have been one of the easier games on ASU’s Pac-12 slate, but the cougars weren’t going to let ASU get by too easily.

The Sun Devils were able to pull away in the second half on their way to 68-49 victory. ASU was led by their superman, senior forward Sophie Brunner who topped the game in points (20) and rebounds (15). It was her fourth double double of the season and her career high in rebounds.”

Another great win for the women’s team as they are beginning to make their case for best team in the Pac-12. Another lopsided victory, despite the 11:00 a.m. start time, just proves how dominant this year’s team is.

While the 2015-16 team is considered the best women’s team for ASU in history, the 2016-17 team is proving that Arizona State is here to stay as one of the best teams in the nation.

“After sweeping their road trip to Massachusetts, the first series sweep in program history, the Arizona State Sun Devils hockey team began to struggle, going winless in their next four games. Following a tough series against No. 3 Denver, the Devils hit the road once more, this time with their eyes on the No. 10 Ohio State Buckeyes.”

Another top-tier team for ASU to face, and another top-tier team that ASU will learn from. While it gets frustrating to see a team like ASU facing so many powerhouses and getting demolished, it is helping the program develop and learn how to play like a top-tier team.

While the record may not reflect it, ASU is slowly making their way down the path of becoming a powerhouse program of their own.

The True Test Begins Now

“Arizona State now prepares to face one of the best team in the country in the Washington Huskies.

Washington is ranked No. 8 in the latest AP Poll with their only two losses coming on the road at Notre Dame and Oregon State.

The Huskies are led by the star tandem of guard Kelsey Plum and forward Chantel Osahor.”

This really will be a test for the women’s team. After winning by another large margin, they have separated themselves from most of the Pac-12, but Washington stands in their way from truly being considered possibly the best team in the Pac-12.

In order to get past Washington, they will need to rely on their stifling defense and the experience of the seniors to lead them throughout the game. If the Huskies jump out to an early lead, the seniors will need to keep everyone motivated and lead their team through what could be their toughest matchup all season.
