Arizona State football typically hasn't been a team that finds itself in significantly better shape after the transfer window closes. However, in 2025 that trend ended with the announcement star wide receiver Jordyn Tyson will be returning to Tempe next season.
The 20-year-old Colorado transfer had a career year racking up 1,101 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, quickly becoming quarterback Sam Leavitt's top weapon in the passing offense.
Tyson left ASU's 49-7 Territorial Cup victory against rival Arizona on the final day of the regular season with an upper body injury. He took a hard hit on the ground in the fourth quarter and returned to the sideline in a sling.
Jordyn Tyson's return can only mean good things for ASU's 2025 season
Due to the unfortunate injury, Tyson did not get to play in the Sun Devils' 45-19 drubbing of Iowa State in the Big 12 Championship game nor in the heartbreaking 39-31 double-overtime loss to Texas in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal at the Chic-fil-a Peach Bowl.
It's undeniable that the sophomore would've had a major impact in ASU's offensive scheming and potentially could've been a difference maker against the Longhorns.
That being said, Tyson's return in 2025 means ASU will have not lost any 2024 starters to the transfer portal. If there aren't any last minute departures, it could be the first time in program history that's happened.
Of course, losing generational talent like running back Cam Skattebo to the NFL Draft will have a huge impact on next year's gameplan but additions like Army starting rusher Kanye Udoh and the return of guys like Tyson means the roster will still be studded with explosiveness.
Head coach Kenny Dillingham will be inheriting nearly the same group of players he had during this miracle season, fans should be excited to see them run it back in 2025.
