Set to enter the final year of the contract that brought him back to his alma mater in 2022, Willie Bloomquist received a contract extension that will keep him in Tempe through the 2028 season. Coming off the program's first NCAA tournament appearance since 2021, this is a vote of confidence for a team that finished in 5th place in their first season in the Big 12.
Carrying a 126-105 record into his 5th season in the dugout, the contract comes with a planned increase in investment from Arizona State to align with a heavy push in the transfer portal this offseason which saw the Sun Devils gain three top-100 transfers in PJ Moutzouridis, Dean Toigo, and Kole Klecker.
The contract is pending formal approval from the Arizona Board of Regents, and will come with a raise from the $390,000 Bloomquist was set to earn in 2026, according to sources familiar with the contract.
The 36-24 record for the Sun Devils in 2025 marks the most wins for the program since 2019, but short of the end goal for this historic program that last reached the 40-win mark in 2011, and has not been to the College World Series since 2010.
The Sun Devils will open the 2026 season on Friday, February 13th when they host Omaha at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
