Editor's Note: Here at Devils in Detail, we strive to provide our readers with the highest quality coverage of all things Sun Devil athletics. As the women's basketball program enters an exciting new era, we are also excited to add a new writer with an extensive background covering the sport. Please welcome Aya Abdeen to the Devils in Detail team!
Hi everyone!
I am Aya Abdeen, and I will be joining Devils in Detail as a contributor to Arizona State athletics, where I will primarily focus on the women's basketball team.
I recently graduated from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University in May with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sports Journalism. I was also the recipient of the Cronkite Spirit Award in the spring convocation.
What inspired me to pursue a career in sports journalism was the interaction I had with Phoenix Mercury legend Diana Taurasi, who gave me the flowers that time. I met her and the team for the first time at Fry's Trading Places, where players of the Phoenix Mercury traded places with employees of a local Fry's Food Store.
Little did I know that I would be covering women's basketball seven years later. My 15-year-old self would be proud of who I have become today.
I covered the Sun Devils' women's basketball team for two seasons while I was a sports reporter for The State Press. I also did some play-by-play for Blaze Radio throughout my college experience and was the co-host for The Wonderful World of Women's Basketball for two years.
I am so excited to contribute to the Devils in Detail team!
