By the end of February 2026, the situation with Bobby Hurley and his future with the Arizona State Sun Devils is in question. Arizona State had gone through a contentious move in the Big 12 competition. Arizona State has experienced sporadic problems, which begs the question of whether the program might end up headed in a new direction.

Nevertheless, the university has not officially shown that a coaching change is expected. It has been reported that Hurley has reached a very crucial phase of the season, just like the previous years, when his teams have been found to react to pressure and then to stabilize at the end of the season.

Greg McDermott Rumors Explained

Recent media discussion has linked Arizona State to high-profile coaching names such as Greg McDermott. Still, those mentions stem from broader coaching carousel speculation rather than any confirmed talks or negotiations involving the program.

McDermott is more or less considered one of the most popular coaches in collegiate basketball. McDermott is widely regarded as one of the most respected coaches in college basketball, making him a frequent hypothetical name whenever major programs are discussed.

McDermott, the promise to Creighton

Nevertheless, regardless of the speculations, there is not much actual impetus to the notion that McDermott will quit his present job. In March 2024, he renewed a long-term contract with the Creighton Bluejays, which extends up to the 2027-28 season. McDermott has also publicly indicated that he planned to complete his coaching career at Creighton.

There is yet no confirmation that Arizona State is looking to replace Hurley. There is also no evidence that McDermott has realistic chances. At this point, both situations remain rooted in speculation rather than substantiated reporting.
