In the 10+ seasons of Division I hockey at Arizona State, three Sun Devils have made it to the NHL ranks. Joey Daccord is the standard bearer, now in his 7th season in the league between the Ottawa Senators and Seattle Kraken, holding a career record of 56-57-22 in 144 games played. Josh Doan, now with the Buffalo Sabres, is quickly following in his father's footsteps after debuting for the Arizona Coyotes at Mullett Arena with a two-goal performance against the Columbus Blue Jackets on March 27th, 2024. Brinson Pasichnuk made it to the NHL for a four game cup of coffee with the San Jose Sharks in the 2020-21 season before concluding his career with the Bonnyville Senior Pontiacs of the North Central Hockey League.
Tonight, Ty Murchison will etch his name forever as a pro Sun Devil.

A four-year Sun Devil, Ty established himself as a physical defenseman, not afraid to block shots or beat a path to the penalty box. Second all-time in games played in program history with 145, Ty left Arizona State atop the Arizona State record books in career blocks (243), single-season blocks (98 in 2024-25), single-game blocks (9, December 31 2022 vs. Boston College), career penalties taken (89), career penalty minutes (279), single-season penalties (26 in 2022-23, tied with Tyler Busch), and single-season penalty minutes (93, 2022-23). A shutdown blueliner, Ty did show flashes of offensive skill in his time in Tempe, registering 9 G-14 A-23 P, serving as an alternate captain for his senior season.
Since signing with the Flyers organization this past spring, Ty has shown the same grit and physicality that he became known for in the maroon and gold, tallying 2 G-4 A-6 P with 36 penalty minutes in 25 games with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Flyers.
Be sure to watch the latest Pro Devil in his debut tonight as the Philadelphia Flyers host the San Jose Sharks. Puck drop is at 5:00pm Arizona time and can be seen on ESPN+ (subscription required).
