The lack of offense is surprising

It is surprising that Arizona State and Baylor are in a defensive showdown. In fact, all of our predictions for the game had the game being heavily offensive.

At the half, Arizona State football (2-1) and Baylor (2-1) are tied at 10. The Sun Devils have had a bend but not break defense so far, as Baylor has crossed the 50-yard line in the majority of its drives.

The biggest moment of the game for the Sun Devils was a forced fumble by redshirt senior safety Kyndrich Breedlove that was recovered by redshirt sophomore safety Adrian "Boogie" Wilson. The ensuing drive ended with a 31-yard field goal by redshirt senior kicker Jesus Gomez.

Arizona State has also forced a turnover on downs. Senior linebacker Keyshaun Elliott has recorded a sack as well.

Baylor has posted 149 passing yards, which is on the quieter side for the Bears' standards. The Sun Devil run defense has looked good as they are limiting Baylor to 3.5 yards a carry.

Offensively, the Sun Devils have opted for the ground game rather than the air. The split is 23 rushes to eight passes.

Once again, redshirt junior running back Raleek Brown has been effective with 10 rushes for 52 yards.  The rest of the team has 13 for 47 yards.

Redshirt sophomore quarterback Sam Leavitt rushed for a touchdown, as that was the only time the Sun Devils reached the end zone. Leavitt is 8-for-14 with 58 yards.

A play that does not show up on the box score is a tackle by redshirt junior offensive lineman Jalen Klemm on a return that kept Baylor from having an explosive return.

Gomez has made all of his kicks. Sophomore punter Kanyon Floyd is healthy and playing as he is averaging 42.5 yards on two punts.

The Sun Devils get the ball to start the second half.
