Star player injured, major milestone reached in No. 12 ASU's sweep over Miami (OH)

The Sun Devils lost a key star to a scary hit while picking up all important wins on the road.

No. 12 Arizona State took care of business Friday and Saturday, sweeping Miami (OH) by a combined score of 11-2. The team picked up crucial standings points to catch up with NCHC leaders No. 3 Western Michigan.

However, a scary hit during Saturday's win sent star forward Artem Shlaine to the hospital. Though the trip appeared to be precautionary as reports emerged that Shlaine's condition improved as the night went on and only experienced some lower back pain.

There's been no indication of Shlaine's condition to potentially play in the team's next games against No. 5 Denver (Feb. 7 and 8) but fans will be keeping an eye out for any updates from head coach Greg Powers.

Sun Devil hits career milestones in big wins over Miami (OH)

Despite the scary moment Saturday, there were some individual bright spots in both games that deserve recognition. One Sun Devil player hit career milestones and broke a program record.

On Friday, graduate Lukas Sillinger scored his 69th assist since joining the team which set the new all-time high water mark for the ASU program. He went on to score his own goal in the third period and put his stamp on the 7-1 thrashing.

Later on Saturday, Sillinger would reach his 100th career assist on Kyle Smolen's second period goal. The Bemidji State transfer logged 30 helpers at his previous school while recording to bulk of them (70) in Tempe. Saturday marked his 160th career college game.

Powers has shown to have amassed a plethora of talent in the desert and the hot streak the Devils seem to be on (5-1-1 in their last seven games) is only further proof of the team's potential to win a championship.

ASU will need more consistent producing like it's had from its roster recently as it makes its case to be an NCAA tournament team over the coming weeks.
