The Australian pipeline has relocated to Tempe

It was a slow first few days of transfer portal activity for Arizona State, as the Sun Devils watched multiple players announce their depatrtures amidst reports of contact with other portal entrants from around the nation. Now, four days later, Randy Bennett has his first transfer commit as a Sun Devil.

Marcus Vaughns has committed to transfer to Arizona State. An Australian native, Vaughns originally committed to LSU, largely because of coach David Patrick. A fellow Australian, Patrick recently left LSU for Arizona State, reuniting with Bennett after helping build an Australian pipeline to Moraga.

That pipeline has now been relocated to Tempe, apparently. Both Bennett and Patrick have had plenty of success with Australian players over the years, and Vaughns hopes to be the next one.

A high 4-star prospect out of the land down under, Vaughns' 6'8" frame made him a versatile forward. He played at the NBA Global Academy before committing to LSU, which earned him valuable experience.

Vaughns joined the Tigers earlier this year as an early enrollee. He did not play in any games and primarily worked on the scout team while focusing on honing his skills. That means he comes to Arizona State as a freshman, giving him ample eligibility while still having some exposure to the college basketball world.

Vaughns was one of four LSU portal entrants that we had previously identified as a name to keep an eye on due to their ties with Patrick. Now, he's a Sun Devil.
