The NCAA announced Friday that its Division I cabinet approved a measure permitting schools to add up to two sponsor patches to uniforms and one additional commercial logo to equipment (maximum four square inches), effective August 1. That means college sports fans are going to see more brands on their alma mater's jerseys, just like the NHL allowed following the Covid-19-shortened seasons in 2020 and 2021.
The new policy will only apply to the regular season and non-NCAA championship competition. Any commercial patches will not be permitted during bowl games or College Football Playoff contests. Programs will be allowed an additional logo during conference championships.
The move is just the next step in college sports' evolution in the post-House settlement era, providing yet another revenue stream for schools to inject into their athletic departments and ultimately pay student-athletes.
Arizona State fans could see a myriad of different Phoenix-area businesses apply their logo to football, basketball, baseball, hockey jerseys and maybe even swimsuits. So that got us thinking, which brands would make the most sense (or just be plain fun) to see sponsoring the Sun Devils?
These valley businesses should get their name on ASU jerseys
Burrito Express
This valley family-owned business already has a strong relationship with the school and football program considering they're all alums. Multiple players over the years have signed NIL deals and gotten featured items on their menu. This would be a natural fit for a commercial patch and excite fans about having such a recognizable and beloved logo on ASU's jerseys.

Rafi Law Group
Yes, Mr. Rafi is an alumnus of the dreaded school down south but his billboards are synonymous with the Phoenix metro area. Wouldn't it be hilarious to see them yet even more often on ASU's uniforms? Despite Rafi being a kitty, it would be a smart business decision on his end to capitalize on exposure opportunities and a huge win for ASU to get an injection of cash from an Arizona alum.
Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers
It feels like every time you turn a corner in the valley you run into a Cold Beer & Cheeseburgers location. This business, like Burrito Express, has a close relationship with the school already considering former star running back Cam Skattebo got his own signature burger in 2024. Think about it, their bottle cap shaped logo would look pretty cool with a maroon or white background.

Cold Stone Creamery
Another business that originated in the Tempe area (formerly CEO'd by ex-Arizona governor Doug Ducey), Cold Stone is a large, national brand with enough resources to seriously impact Sun Devil athletics. Plenty of folks would recognize their logo on broadcasts and be inspired to head to their closest location during halftime.

- Zipps Sports Grills (Scottsdale origin)
