A familiar face is joining the Arizona State coaching staff as an assistant running backs coach. Former quarterback Trenton Bourguet was on the Arizona State roster for six years, mostly serving as a backup, but is now taking on a new role.

Bourguet voiced his desire to become a coach the moment Kenny Dillingham got there, so it is not a surprise that the opportunity came up. However, this was a dream of his before he was even a Sun Devil.
Thanks to his father's flag football league, Tucson Turf, Bourguet got a taste of coaching football early on. In fact, he was my head coach.
I joined the Tucson Turf girls flag football team for the 2018-19 season. Bourguet coached us all the way to the national championship in Florida -- and we came home with the win.
I got a firsthand glimpse of having Trenton Bourguet as my coach, and he showed nothing short of what it is like to be a leader. He was patient, encouraging, and always the first to believe in each of us. I fully feel like a coach can make or break a sport for someone, and he made it fun while still pushing us to be better every day. Those kinds of traits are what makes him such a natural fit to be a coach.
Bourguet may have started his journey in Tempe as a walk-on quarterback, but now his impact on the program will go beyond the box score. As someone who has seen his leadership up close, all I can say is Arizona State is lucky to keep him around.
