This week features a lot more teams moving in the rankings compared to last week, as there were three conference games. This creates some significant changes this week.
16. Oklahoma State Cowboys (1-2)
Last week’s rank: 16
Oklahoma State lost at home to Tulsa last week, which was a surprise. The Cowboys will struggle to find wins this season as they face Baylor at home where they are massive underdogs.
15. Kansas State Wildcats (1-3, 0-1 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 15
Kansas State had a much-needed bye week last week. The Wildcats host UCF this week and are favored to win.
14. West Virginia Mountaineers (2-2, 0-1 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 13
West Virginia slid a place after losing to Kansas last week. The Mountaineers are underdogs as they host the Utes in what should be an intriguing game.
13. Colorado Buffaloes (2-2, 0-1 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 14
Colorado defeated Wyoming last week as expected. The Buffaloes move up a place in the rankings as they host BYU this week as underdogs.
12. Arizona Wildcats (3-0)
Last week’s rank: 12
Arizona did not play last week. This week the Wildcats head to Iowa State and are underdogs.
11. Cincinnati Bearcats (2-1)
Last week’s rank: 11
Cincinnati had a bye week last week. The Bearcats take on Kansas this week in Lawrence as they are underdogs.
10. Baylor Bears (2-2, 0-1 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 6
Baylor got walked off last week against Arizona State leading to its drop in the rankings. This week the Bears have a get-right game at Oklahoma State where they are heavy favorites.
9. Utah Utes (3-1, 0-1 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 5
Utah had a crushing loss last week against Texas Tech as it fell down the rankings. This week, the Utes travel to Morgantown to take on West Virginia as they are expected to win.
8. UCF Knights (3-0)
Last week’s rank: 10
UCF domination of North Carolina last week as expected moves them up a couple positions. The Knights travel to Kansas State this week and are underdogs.
7. Houston Cougars (3-0, 1-0 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 9
Hoston had an off week last week. This week the Cougars go to Oregon State on Friday and they are projected to win.
6. Kansas Jayhawks (3-1, 1-0 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 8
Kansas dominated against West Virginia last weekend as expected as they moved up a bit in the rankings. This week the Jayhawks host Cincinnati and are favored to win.
5. Arizona State Sun Devils (3-1, 1-0 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 7
Arizona State squeaked out a win against Baylor last weekend which allows them to ease up the rankings. The Sun Devils host TCU this Friday night on a short week where they are favored to win.
4. BYU Cougars (3-0)
Last week’s rank: 4
BYU went to East Carolina and took care of business against the Pirates. This week, the Cougars go on the road to Boulder to face Colorado, in a game they are favored to win.
3. Texas Tech Red Raiders (4-0, 1-0 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 3
Texas Tech went to Salt Lake City and destroyed Utah. The Red Raiders lost their senior starting quarterback to injury in that game, and having a bye week this week can help him get healthy.
2. Iowa State Cyclones (4-0, 1-0 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 2
Iowa State is coming off a bye week. The Cyclones look to defeat an undefeated Arizona at home, which should be a somewhat easy task.
1. TCU Horned Frogs (3-0)
Last week’s rank: 1
TCU defeated Dallas-Ft. Worth metro area rival SMU in the Battle for the Iron Skillet last Saturday by two scores. This week, the Horned Frogs travel to Tempe, where they are listed as underdogs in what could be the most interesting game of the week.
After this week, all teams will have completed their non-conference play slate, as well as at least one conference game. There should be similar movement in next week's edition of the power rankings.
