At the end of last week’s edition of the power rankings, I suggested that there would be some slight changes. Instead, this week brought in changes for all but one team.
16. Oklahoma State Cowboys (1-3, 0-1 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 16
Oklahoma State lost at Baylor after firing longtime head coach Mike Gundy last week. The Cowboys are the only team not to change positions from last week as they are probably going to stay in the basement of the power rankings for the rest of the year. OSU travels to Arizona this Saturday.
15. West Virginia Mountaineers (2-3, 0-2 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 14
Last week, West Virginia got blown out by Utah, as it dropped a spot. This Friday, the Mountaineers travel to BYU as they are heavy underdogs
14. Colorado Buffaloes (2-3, 0-2 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 13
Last Saturday, Colorado lost to BYU as it dropped a spot in the power rankings. This week, the Buffaloes visit TCU as heavy underdogs.
13. Arizona Wildcats (3-1, 0-1 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 12
Arizona suffered its first loss at Iowa State last Saturday, dropping a spot in the rankings. The Wildcats are heavy favorites as they host Oklahoma State this week.
12. UCF Knights (3-1, 0-1 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 8
UCF is one of the biggest fallers after losing to Kansas State last Saturday, as it drops four spots. The Knights host Kansas as underdogs this week.
11. Kansas State Wildcats (2-3, 1-1 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 15
Kansas State is the week’s biggest riser in the power rankings, up four positions after beating UCF. The Wildcats travel to Baylor as underdogs this Saturday.
10 Kansas Jayhawks (3-2, 1-1 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 6
Kansas got upset by Cincinnati last week, as they fell four spots. The Jayhawks travel to UCF this Saturday as favorites.
9. Cincinnati Bearcats (3-1, 1-0 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 11
Cincinnati knocked off Kansas unexpectedly last week in a thriller as it gained two spots. This Saturday, the Bearcats are favored to beat Iowa State at home.
8. Baylor Bears (3-2, 1-1 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 10
Baylor jumps two spots after knocking off Oklahoma State last week. The Bears are favored to beat Kansas State at home this Saturday.
7. Utah Utes (4-1, 1-1 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 9
Utah’s domination of West Virginia last Saturday allows it to rise two spots in the power rankings. The Utes have an off week this week.
6. Houston Cougars (4-0, 1-0 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 7
Houston defeated Oregon State last Friday as expected, allowing it to move up a spot. This week, the Cougars are underdogs as they take on Texas Tech at home.
5. TCU Horned Frogs (3-1, 0-1 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 1
TCU lost a close battle to Arizona State last Friday. The Horned Frogs take on Colorado this week at home, where they are the favorites.
4. Arizona State Sun Devils (4-1, 2-0 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 5
Arizona State knocked off TCU in a close battle last Friday. This week, the Sun Devils have a bye week.
3. BYU Cougars (4-0, 1-0 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 4
BYU knocked off Colorado last week as expected, as they jumped up a spot. This Friday, the Cougars are favored to beat West Virginia at home.
2. Texas Tech Red Raiders (4-0, 1-0 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 3
Texas Tech rose a spot during its bye week. This Saturday the Red Raiders travel to Houston in a battle of the unbeatens, where they are favored to win.
1. Iowa State Cyclones (5-0, 2-0 Big 12)
Last week’s rank: 2
Iowa State knocked off Arizona in a battle of the unbeatens last Saturday. This allowed the Cyclones to go up a spot as they travel to Cincinnati this week where they are underdogs.
Next week, I expect there to be significantly less movement in the power rankings, similar to what last week’s were.
