PHOENIX- On a sunny Sunday morning, alumni of Arizona State athletics appeared on the baseball field in Phoenix Municpal Stadium.
Former ASU football and current New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo was among the guests who appeared in the annual celebrity softball game.
When the announcer said his name, fans in attendance gave Skattebo a roaring ovation as he hyped himself up while walking to the field.
"It was awesome to see all the legends that have played and done good things here, and be a part of this and be included in it has been something that I never really thought about," he said.
When he also attended the Arizona State vs. Arizona men's basketball game, Skattebo told Devils in Detail on Saturday that he played baseball growing up. It turns out he made a name for himself in the 2025 Peach Bowl, where he was named Offensive MVP despite the Sun Devils' loss.
"I mean, baseball was something I loved doing," Skattebo said. "I almost wanted to play it more than I wanted to play football, but football ended up working out."
Just a day later, he recorded a home run and a double hit in his three at-bats while doing a bat flip. After the event concluded, Skattebo told reporters that his ankle felt good as he recovered from the season-ending surgery he underwent two months ago.
Spencer Torkelson, Sun Devils Baseball alum and current First Baseman for the Detroit Tigers, was also among the alumni who made an appearance for the second consecutive year.
"It's really cool," Torkelson said of Skattebo. "He's an unbelievable athlete, but he's an unbelievable person too. It's actually my first time meeting him. And he's a baller, he's a special dude. And, gosh, I didn't know he could pick it like that. That's pretty impressive."
It was the first time these two alums, who made big names for themselves during their days in Tempe, met each other as they enjoyed getting to be a part of the event.
When asked about playing alongside Torkelson, the top overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft, Skattebo said, "It was awesome. He's a good dude, I'm excited to be a part of this more often."
What a weekend Skattebo has in Tempe, from making an appearance at the Sun Devils men's basketball to having the time of his life on the baseball field in the celebrity softball game, he can do it all.
