If there has been one true constant to Sun Devil football this season, it's been a never ending log of injuries. It's not nearly half the roster like fans have been accustomed to seeing the last few weeks, but the absences include key players on both sides of the ball.
No changes for ASU in tonight's player availability report: WR Jordyn Tyson is DOUBTFUL, as well as LB Tate Romney. DE Prince Dorbah is listed as QUESTIONABLE, as is OL Joey Su’a. Even before the initial injury report came out on Wednesday night, the Sun Devils knew they would be without star quarterback Sam Leavitt for this week's matchup after getting shaken up last week against Houston. Jordyn Tyson has been slightly upgraded from "out" to "doubtful", but comparing to NFL injury reports, that label is almost always a sure indicator of not playing. Linebacker Tate Romney joins Tyson with a doubtful designation, but the return of Jordan Crook offers some optimism for the linebacking corps.
Ghost Rowser will miss the first half of the game due to suspension for his targeting disqualification last week but will be eligible to play the second half. Other reported injuries of note list defensive lineman Prince Dorbah and offensive lineman Joey Su'a both as questionable.
With Leavitt injured, Jeff Sims will take the reins for his second start of the season, and Cameron Dyer has been cleared to dress as his backup.
Iowa State hasn't fared much better on the injury front. Already down Jontez Williams and Jeremiah Cooper due to season-ending injuries, Khijohnn Cummings-Coleman became the third defensive back for the Cyclones to go down with a season-ending injury. Running backs Abu Sama III and Jayden Jackson headline the rest of the report for Iowa State, both listed as questionable.
Arizona State and Iowa State will kick off at 10am on Saturday from Jack Trice Stadium on TNT.
