The Nanooks pulled off a 2-1 upset over No. 8 ranked Quinnipiac yesterday afternoon with goals from Michael Citara and Alexander Malinowski, and will be looking to play spoiler against the Sun Devils. These two teams have a long history head to head, with Alaska holding the 7-9-1 edge in the all-time series dating back to ASU's first season in 2015-16. The last meetings in the 2023-24 season at Fairbanks featured some fireworks as Tucker Ness engaged in a rare fight at the college level against Dawson Bruneski.
There is some welcome news for Sun Devil fans as freshman goaltender Samuel Urban should be active for tonight's game after leaving early last night with cramping issues. Head coach Greg Powers was quiet as ever on who would get the start in net, but the smart thinking is that senior netminder Connor Hasley will start between the pipes.
The only significant absences for tonight remain Brasen Boser (undisclosed injury) and Jack Beck (ineligible, will return at Miami October 31-November 1).
Puck drop is at 7pm tonight following the conclusion of the consolation game between Quinnipiac and Notre Dame. The game will air in the Phoenix market on Fox 10 Xtra and stream nationally on NCHC.tv, with Tyler Paley providing the play-by-play and Alex Coil the color commentary. Tyler and Alex will also carry the call on the radio on Fox Sports 910 Phoenix.
Arizona State enters as 1.5-goal favorites over the Nanooks according to DraftKings Sportsbook. The Devils are -375 on the moneyline, while Alaska is +270. The over/under on goals is 5.5.
