In just 24 hours, Arizona State will play their final game of the 2025 season. They'll take on ACC champion Duke in the Sun Bowl, in a rematch from the 2014 season, which the Sun Devils won.
However, college football has changed a lot since then, and it's now the norm for players to opt out of bowl games. In total, Arizona State will be without 35 players tomorrow between those opting out and those with injuries. Here is a full breakdown of it who's going to be out.
Out With Injuries
- QB Sam Leavitt
- RB Kyson Brown
- RB Kanye Udoh*
- WR Plas Johnson
- WR Noble Johnson*
- WR Harry Hassmann*
- WR Uriah Neloms*
- WR Chance Ables*
- OL Ben Coleman
- OL Doughlass Teloma*
- OL Brent Helton*
- DT Zac Swanson
- DT MyKeil Gardner
- DT Daeshon Morgan*
- DE Josh Shanklin*
- LB Zyrus Fiaseu
- S Adrian Wilson
- S Xavion Alford
- CB Rodney Bimage
* denotes an undisclosed injury
The big name here is obviously Leavitt. The quarterback has yet to officially announce he's entering the transfer portal, but the writing has been on the wall since Leavitt was a no-show for the team's banquet earlier this month. Leavitt is also still recovering from the injury that ended his season early, which alleviates some of the pressure for him to make a declaration yet.
Both Kyson Brown and Kanye Udoh will not suit up in this one due to injuries. Both came into the year with sky high expectations, and both struggled before going down with injuries. There is speculation that Udoh may opt to transfer out as well, but no announcement has been made.
Opting Out
- RB Raleek Brown
- WR Jordyn Tyson
- WR Zechariah Sample*
- TE Chamon Metayer
- TE Coleson Arends*
- TE Jayden Fortier*
- OL Max Iheanachor
- OL Josh Atkins*
- OL Sean Na'a*
- DE Clayton Smith
- LB Keyshaun Elliott
- LB Tate Romney*
- CB Javan Robinson*
- CB Keith Abney
- CB Chris Johnson*
- CB Joseph McGinnis*
* denotes a pending entry to the transfer portal
Raleek Brown, Jordyn Tyson, and Chamon Metayer are all off to the NFL Draft, and they won't be playing in this game as they start to prepare for the next stage. That eliminates 49.8% of the Sun Devils' total offensive yardage on the season and will put pressure on Jeff Sims and others to step up in the Sun Bowl.
Both starting tackles and both starting cornerbacks will be out in this one, with Max Iheanachor and Keith Abney preparing for the draft while Josh Atkins and Javan Robinson eye new homes via the transfer portal. Their absences will make things that much harder for Arizona State in this one.
