The Associated Press already put together their updated rankings for the Top 25 teams in the nation, and now it's our turn. After a week filled with upsets, the Devils in Detail panel unveils our rankings, with several changes from last week.
1. Ohio State Buckeyes
There's no arguing with it: Ohio State is the best team in the nation right now. After falling one vote shy of a unanimous first place in last week's poll, the Buckeyes are the unquestioned top of the food chain.
2. Penn State Nittany Lions
Last week, the lone Buckeye doubter on our panel cast their vote for Penn State instead. Fittingly, the Nittany Lions are now one vote shy of a unanimous second place finish.
3. LSU Tigers
LSU's season opener was more impressive than their 23-7 win over Louisiana Tech, but the Tigers still showed enough to stand firm at third overall.
4. Miami Hurricanes
The Hurricanes followed up their gutsy win over Notre Dame by thrashing FCS Bethune Cookman, which didn't tell us much about them. This week brings a clash with South Florida, though.
5. Oregon Ducks
Oregon utterly dismantled Oklahoma State, which isn't entirely surprising but still reflective of how good this team is right now.
6. Georgia Bulldogs
The panel was split on Georgia after last week, but their lackluster win over FCS Austin Peay helped cement the Bulldogs' drop to sixth.
7. Texas Longhorns
Arch Manning looked markedly better in his second game of the year, but Texas didn't see a jump in our panel's confidence.
8. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Notre Dame moved up a spot without even playing a game, likely due in part to the Hurricanes' strong showing.
9. Illinois Fighting Illini
The Fighting Illini are making believers out of our panel after destroying Duke this weekend. Big Ten play will be more revealing, but for now Illinois looks like a real contender.
10. South Carolina Gamecocks
South Carolina took a little time to get going against FCS SC State, but they closed it out. The lackluster performance keeps them from moving up or down this week.
11. Clemson Tigers
Clemson got the win, but not before giving every Tigers fan a scare first. They trailed Troy at halftime and needed a big comeback effort to win, so it's no surprise to see them drop several spots.
12. Oklahoma Sooners
Is Oklahoma for real or is Michigan just not that good? Only time will tell, but the Sooners looked pretty good at home against the Wolverines.
13. Iowa State Cyclones
Iowa State has an early lead in the Big 12 standings, and their strong win over rival Iowa helped cement their status as the early frontrunner.
14. Florida State Seminoles
After sneaking into the Top 25 last week, Florida State earned the respect of our panel this week. The Seminoles look legit, and they make the biggest jump up of any team, moving up nine spots.
15. Ole Miss Rebels
Ole Miss also saw a sizable leap after ousting SEC foe Kentucky, though their jump has more to do with the panel being considerably split on who comes next after Florida State. Due to some tiebreakers, the Rebels got the call.
16. Texas A&M Aggies
Most of the teams from here on out received mixed opinions from our panel. One panelist didn't even rank them, while another had them at No. 13. The difference was split in the end.
17. Tennessee Volunteers
Tennessee received a similar treatment, with varied opinions that's at least somewhat due to their uninspiring schedule thus far.
18. Michigan Wolverines
Michigan fought hard against Oklahoma, and they didn't get blown out, but they did lose by multiple scores. That's worth a drop, though not one as dramatic as the AP felt they deserved.
19. Indiana Hoosiers
Moving up a few spots, the Hoosiers looked better in their second game than the first. One pollster even slotted them in at No. 10, but the rest of the panel is taking a more conservative approach.
20. Utah Utes
Utah just barely missed out on being ranked last week, but our panel saw enough from the Utes to comfortably include them here as the second ranked Big 12 school.
21. Texas Tech Red Raiders
Opinions were varied on Texas Tech - peaking at No. 13 - largely due to their uninspiring schedule, but the Red Raiders have dominated two teams they were supposed to dominate.
22. South Florida Bulls
Two straight weeks, two straight upsets of Top 25 teams. That'll get the South Florida Bulls ranked easily, and they now set their sights on Miami.
23. Alabama Crimson Tide
Alabama looked considerably better this week, enough to show they can compete in the SEC still, but it'll take more than that to restore faith in the Kalen DeBoer regime.
24. Auburn Tigers
A blowout win, combined with the impressive win for Baylor after falling to the Tigers last week, has catapulted Auburn into the rankings. Of course, SEC play will offer more insight into whether Hugh Freeze's team is for real or not.
25. Florida Gators
Getting upset by South Florida was the match that lit the dynamite in Gainesville, but our panel is holding onto their pitchforks for now. Florida remains talented, and they should still be contenders in the SEC.
Also receiving votes: BYU, Missouri, Arizona State, Memphis, Mississippi State, SMU, Louisville, TCU
Dropped from rankings: Arizona State, SMU, Kansas State
The Sun Devils received one vote, but the majority of our panel no longer felt they belonged in the Top 25. Harsh, but fair. BYU and TCU were other Big 12 programs to receive votes, with the Cougars just narrowly missing out on the final spot.
