With less than a month until the Big XII baseball tournament begins, the stakes for a postseason appearance will only continue to get higher.
Coming off a midweek loss to Grand Canyon that saw blown leads leads of 5-2 and 6-3, the Devils will look to bounce back when they welcome BYU to Phoenix Municipal Stadium for a Thursday-Saturday weekend series.
Tuesday night's loss didn't deal a blow to the RPI, but sitting at 48 entering this weekend means the losses down the stretch need to be minimized. Despite being 13th of 14 teams in the conference standings, BYU is nipping at the Devils' heels in the RPI at 52. The month of April has not been kind to the Cougars, entering this series 6-7 on the month after losing two of three last weekend at home against Arizona before a 15-7 win on Monday night over in-state foe Utah Valley.
April has been a forgettable month for the Devils as well. After starting the season 19-9 through March, Arizona State has posted an identical 6-7 record month to date. 15 games remain on the regular season schedule to move into better positioning for the conference tournament, which would have the Devils playing in Game 1 in the #5/12 matchup if the tournament started today.
