Busy baseball week kicks off with non-conference matchup at UNLV

The first of five games this week for the Sun Devils brings a homecoming storyline

The beat rolls on for Arizona State as they will play for the 4th consecutive day, making a pit stop in Las Vegas on their way home for a matchup with the Rebels of UNLV.

At 15-9, UNLV is tied with New Mexico for the best overall record in the Mountain West Conference, but a series sweep at Air Force that saw the Rebels give up at least 15 runs in all three games has them sitting at the bottom of the conference standings. This single game should have Devils offense looking at this as an opportunity to feast on a battered pitching staff.

Feast or famine has told the story for the UNLV staff recently, with Parker Dillhoff tossing a masterpiece of 1-run ball over 7 innings on Saturday against Utah Tech, followed by an 11 run collapse on Sunday in a game started by Felix Ong. A collective 7.20 team ERA will be like waving a red flag in front of this charging bull offense for the Sun Devils that averages 9 runs per game.

Drew Barragan is the player to key in on in the lineup for the Rebels tonight. The team leader with 6 HR and 30 RBI, his impressive slash line of .427/.514/.775/1.289 makes him an opponent not to be tested. Nin Burns II has shown himself to be a reliable run producer with 25 RBI, with Cooper Sheff and Ayden Garcia also contributing over 20 RBI to this point in the season.

A Vegas Homecoming

Sun Devil pitcher Alex Overbay will make his return to Las Vegas after playing the first two seasons of his collegiate career with the Rebels. A member of the Academic All-Mountain West team after his sophomore season, he was their primary closer with 7 saves in 20 appearances in 2025. After pitching 1.1 innings on Saturday at Kansas State, it's not out of the realm of possibility that he could see some work against his former team.

How To Watch

Technically a neutral site game, the Sun Devils and Rebels will face off from Las Vegas Ballpark in Summerlin at 6pm Arizona time. Starting pitchers are unclear at the time of this writing, but options for the Sun Devils could see either Easton Barrett or Colin Linder get the ball as the opener, while Reece Lueck seems to be the most likely opener option for UNLV. This game will be available to stream online via the Mountain West Network.
