Arizona State athletics is entering a summer dead period of sorts. Spring sports are all pretty much over and fall sports (outside of football) have yet to begin practices.
We here at Devils in Detail are launching our tri-weekly news roundups, where we'll catch you up on things we're covering all in one spot. But be sure to check out the rest of the site where we go further in-depth on all the Sun Devil sports you love.
Here's where things stand in Tempe as we enter the second week of June 2025:
ASU Baseball retains HC Willie Bloomquist for 2025-26 season
After tumbling out of their respective regional, Sun Devil Baseball will get head coach Willie Bloomquist back in the dugout for his fifth season in charge. Despite the disappointing end to the year, Bloomquist led the team to its first postseason appearance since 2021.
Athletic Director Graham Rossini made it clear that even though Bloomquist's performance this season was adequate enough to not warrant a firing, he shouldn't rest on his laurels.
"No one should be satisfied with making a Regional," he said. "The goal is always bigger and we are now making the investment it takes for Coach Bloomquist to operate the program at a high level. Our coaches will recruit nationally to attract high-end talent to Tempe to play winning baseball at one of the sport's most decorated programs. It's important to President (Michael) Crow, it's important to me, and should be for everyone associated with our baseball program to be a part of this important next step for Sun Devil Baseball."
It appears that it'll be Omaha or bust for the Sun Devils in 2026.
Top-60 guard prospect to visit ASU
New women's basketball head coach Molly Miller is wasting no time rebuilding the Sun Devil roster. She's hit the transfer portal hard but also is keeping the program relevant and in play for some serious high school prospecs.
Natalya Hodges, currently ranked as the 55th best player in the nation by 247 Sports, recently scheduled visits with four programs. She'll check out Florida State, Baylor, Arizona, and Arizona State, the first four official visits of her recruitment.
Hodge has said publicly that she plans to take more visits and whittle down her top 10 list of schools near the end of July, so we're still early in the process. Still, the fact that the Sun Devils make up one of her first visits seems meaningful.
82 days until Sun Devil football kicks off 2025 season
Devils in Detail has been helping you, the fans, count down the days until Sun Devil football returns to action at Mountain America Stadium. Yesterday, we highlighted walk-on wide receiver Derek Eusebio who's looking to blaze a path as one of the greatest stories in ASU gridiron history.
Later today, you can read all about All-American defensive lineman Al Harris and his journey from Tempe to the NFL as a Top 10 overall draft selection.
Be sure to keep up with the rest of our countdown as we approach college football season at the end of the summer.
