While the Arizona heat is beating down on folks in the valley, Sun Devil athletics are continuing to put in the work. College football is right around the corner and spring sports like baseball are continuing to plug away at getting better for 2026.

We here at Devils in Detail will get you caught up on all the action you may have missed over the weekend.

Quarterback Sam Leavitt ranked insultingly low on Big 12 power list

Exiting the 2024-25 football season, QB Sam Leavitt was one of the biggest surprises on the national stage. He helped lead Sun Devil football to its first conference championship and New Year's Six Bowl since 1996, conquering the Big 12 and participating in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal at the Peach Bowl.

Those performances earned Leavitt high praise and spots on national outlets' early Heisman Trophy contenders lists. But one pundit doesn't seem to buy the hype.

Athlon's Phil Steele released his All-American lists last last week, and within that only two Sun Devils made his All-Big 12 team: wide receiver Jordyn Tyson and safety Xavian Alford. Leavitt was relegated to Steele's All-Big 12 third team. Can you believe that?

If word makes it back to Leavitt and the Sun Devil locker room, consider it ample bulletin board material and motivation for the upcoming season.

Baseball adds four in summer transfer portal

Head coach Willie Bloomquist is continuing to work hard to rebuild his roster after a disappointing end to the 2025 campaign. Reports indicate he could lose up to 11 players in the summer transfer portal.

On Friday, four new signees officially joined the dugout, bringing some much needed reinforcement to Bloomquist's roster.

Outfielder George Bilecki (Division II - Lewis College), first baseman Garrett Michel (Virginia Tech), third baseman Austen Roellig (Utah) and catcher Coen Niclai (Oregon) will be the newest additions in Tempe. Their young talents will be raw but bring valuable potential.

Former RB Cam Skattebo was a top NIL earner in 2024-25

If former Sun Devil running back Cam Skattebo's success at ASU wasn't already apparent, here's one more reason to believe. The 23-year-old NFL rookie, drafted in the fourth round (105th overall) by the New York Giants, was named a finalist by the NIL Store for its male top-earner award.

Skattebo is one of five high-profile athletes to earn the most from the company's merch lines, of which revenue directly benefitted college players. He joins Duke's Cooper Flagg, Boise State's Ashton Jeanty, Rutgers' Dylan Harper and Purdue's Braden Smith as finalists.

It's unclear what the dollar amount of Skattebo's earnings was but he was clearly doing very well for himself. He was well-known for partnerships with local businesses like Burrito Express and Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers.

And it's only looking up from here. Skattebo signed his four-year $5.271 million rookie contract with New York on Wednesday. The deal includes a $1.1 million signing bonus.
