The dog days of summer are here, folks. While it seems like there's a news drought in valley sports, Arizona State athletics are well saturated.
We at Devils in Detail hope you all enjoyed your July 4th holiday weekend. The fireworks have settled across the country but things are just heating up in the desert.
Football preseason All-Americans shade ASU program
The 2025 Walter Camp Preseason All-America Teams were released on Tuesday, and they're a clear indicator of which programs the so-called experts think will boast the strongest talent.
Players from 34 different programs are represented on the list, but the Southeastern Conference leads the way with 12 schools mentioned. There are five teams with three players listed (Alabama,Clemson, Indiana, Penn State and Texas). Arizona State got two nods but even that seems like too few.
Redshirt sophomore quarterback Sam Leavitt and sophomore wide receiver Jordyn Tyson were both named to the preseason All-America second team, behind Clemson's Cade Klubnik, Ohio State's Jeremiah Smith and Alabama's Ryan Williams.

While those two selections were worthy in their respective spots, they aren't the only Sun Devils who probably deserved more recognition. DB Xavion Alford (Big 12 first-team defense), defensive lineman CJ Fite (Big 12 second-team defense) and kicker Jesus Gomez (Big 12 third-team specialists) are going to be players that make a big difference for ASU football this season.
19 Sun Devils participate in summer league baseball
Even though the ASU baseball season ended over a month ago, there are still many Sun Devils playing baseball in various summer leagues across the U.S. These leagues keep the Sun Devils sharp and could be an indicator of who may be starting in the spring.
There are 19 players that either took an at bat for ASU this past season or will be arriving in Tempe later this year. You can check in on their progress here.
55 days until kickoff for ASU football
We are officially less than 8 weeks until college football returns. Saturday's turn in our Spotlight Series revisited the career of football lifer Kyle Murphy, and on Sunday with 55 days until the season, we stayed on the offensive line with Christian Westerman.
Stay tuned later today as we examine yet another offensive lineman's legacy: Scott Peters.
