In the summertime, both the Tempe weather and Sun Devil Athletics dry up as there are no games and seldom practices for any Arizona State teams.
That makes it the perfect time for Devils in Detail to launch our tri-weekly news roundups, for you to quench your thirst for Sun Devil Athletics news in one spot. Check out the rest of the site, where we will go further in-depth with the ASU sports you love.
In this second edition of the roundup, the baseball offseason gets in swing and the football countdown continues.
Two more depart Arizona State baseball
ASU lost two more players to the transfer portal, as they have yet to announce any formal signing. Rising Juniors Jax Ryan and Bradyn Barnes entered the portal.
Ryan, a shortstop, had good chances of taking over the shortstop position from Matt King, who is likely going to be drafted. Ryan posted good numbers for a backup in his two years as a Sun Devil, with head coach Willie Bloomquist often calling him a starter in programs in press conferences.
Local product Bradyn Barnes did not have the same success as Ryan. The lefty pitcher struggled in his two years at Arizona State. Barnes was passed by a couple of lefties in the Arizona State bullpen this season.
The Sun Devils look to draw in a good batch of transfers as Bloomquist has a good history of doing so.
80 days until Sun Devil football defends its Big 12 championship
We have been counting down to the opening kickoff for the reigning Big 12 champions by highlighting a player from Arizona State’s teams. Yesterday, we featured legendary wide receiver Shaun McDonald who was one of the top receivers in Sun Devil history.
Later today, you can read about Todd Heap, who was one of Arizona State’s top tight ends and was a first-round draft pick before having an illustrious career.
