Arizona State isn't used to this kind of rain.
The Sun Devils took the field for a Friday night game against Texas Tech with a chance to clinch the series win. Not long after the first pitch was thrown, light showers started at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
Over the course of the game, the rain picked up more and more. At various times, both the Sun Devils and Red Raiders needed extra time to service equipment - wiping off bats, scraping mud off of cleats, etc - and the grounds crew came out a few times to try and salvage the field.
In between all of it, both teams were locked in a tight battle, going back and forth with the lead. Arizona State had just tied things up at 7-7 in the bottom of the seventh and loaded the bases with two outs, hoping for a big play.
That's when the rain turned to a torrential downpour.
The grounds crew came out to try and keep the surface playable, and the game was officially put into a rain delay. After about half an hour, the game was suspended for the night.
