Arizona State is looking to take its first home Big 12 series on Sunday. Game 3 against the Jayhawks is a winner-take-all after the Sun Devils fell 7-3 on Saturday night.

Starting pitcher Jack Martinez started solid before being rocked in the third inning, giving up five runs (seven total on the night). The Sun Devils bats went cold yet again, the inconsistent play coming back to bite them in a critical Big 12 matchup.

The lone bright spot on the night was Brandon Compton's two-run homer in the bottom of the third to cut Kansas' lead in half. It was his fifth moon shot of the year but it wasn't enough to rally the Devils the rest of the game.

Kansas starting pitcher Kannon Carr did well to supress ASU's fire power, outside of Compton's third inning bomb, allowing just three runs on five hits, walking just one batter and striking out five others.

This was just the fourth time so far this season ASU has failed to score more than three runs in a loss. The other half of its loss column saw the team go down in shoot-outs.

The Sun Devils (3-2) dropped to seventh in the Big 12 standings overnight, although the Jayhawks (fifth) and UCF (sixth) have the same exact conference record. Sunday's winner-take-all matchup will be pivotal in gaining a crucial advantage heading into the bulk of the conference schedule.
