Arizona State pulled off a massive upset over then-No. 7 ranked Texas Tech last week and returned to a spot in the national rankings themselves. Now the No. 24 Sun Devils will do battle with the Houston Cougars at home with a lot more on the line than people realize.
Houston (6-1) has an opportunity to earn the inside track to the Big 12 Championship Game in Dallas with a win, something opponents have not been able to achieve at Mountain America Stadium since 2023.
While ASU has an impeccable record at home, it'll be without its top offensive weapon in wide receiver Jordyn Tyson. Quarterback Sam Leavitt is back and healthy but losing his best wideout is going to potentially limit his effectiveness and that of the entire offense.
So, someone else like tight end Chamon Metayer or wide receiver Jaren Hamilton will have to step up for the program and fill the production void left by Tyson's absence.
