It may not be the fiercest of rivalries, but the games always take on extra meaning against in-state opponents.
The Sun Devils will close the book on the 2025 home schedule tonight with a rematch against Grand Canyon, looking to get some revenge for the loss three weeks ago at Brazell Field.
After a 2-1 series win over Houston this past weekend, the Devils saw a slight drop in the RPI, falling out of the top 40 to #45. Grand Canyon, on the other hand, enters at #78 in the RPI following a 6-5 stretch since defeating ASU on April 22nd, including a 5-2 win at home against then-#22 ranked Arizona.
If last month's loss showed us anything, it's that no lead is safe. The Devils held a 5-2 lead entering the 5th inning and saw the Antelopes chip away at that deficit inning by inning, eventually coming away with the 7-6 win. Such was the case on Friday against Houston, when the Devils saw a 4-1 lead evaporate in the 6th inning and turn into a 6-5 loss.
This last tune-up before going to Stillwater this weekend may not have the most meaning on paper, but pride is at stake. No game is a throwaway at this point in the season. A win won't move the needle much, but a loss is something the Devils must avoid with the conference tournament around the corner.
