Some Arizona State fans may still be disappointed the Sun Devils did not return to the College Football Playoff but let's at least be grateful our boys in maroon and gold are playing in the postseason at all, especially after how injuries ravaged this team throughout the season.
ASU will travel to a frequented location for its final contest of the 2025 campaign and face a familiar foe for the right to lift a trophy it's won four times before. We turn our eyes to El Paso, Texas where the Sun Devils will meet ACC champion Duke at the Sun Bowl.
Those who are old enough will remember these two programs played 11 years ago in the same bowl game. ASU emerged victorious 36-31 and you can re-live that memorable day in our retrospective published last weekend.
Arizona State has an all-time record of 4-2-1 in the Sun Bowl, the postseason game it has most frequented. It's only been more successful in the Fiesta Bowl (5-1) and last won in El Paso back in 2019.
This time, however, ASU may find winning it's fifth Sun Bowl a little more difficult given it'll be without offensive stars like quarterback Sam Leavitt (transfer portal) and wide receiver Jordyn Tyson (NFL Draft). Duke is coming off an unlikely ACC championship and is riding high.
How to watch Arizona State vs. Duke in the Sun Bowl
The Sun Devils and Blue Devils will do battle at the Sun Bowl, home of UTEP, with kickoff set for Noon MST on Dec. 31.
Fans who didn't make the trek to West Texas can tune in to their local CBS station or stream the game with a cable login online or the CBS Sports app. Cord cutters can log in to their Paramount+, YouTube TV or Fubo accounts to stream the game too (subscriptions required).
Also, Tim Healey and Doug Franz will be in the booth on the Sun Devil Radio Network on 98.7 FM Arizona Sports. You can also check out Blaze Radio Online for student-led coverage of the game.
Betting information
Arizona State enters the Sun Bowl as 3.5-point underdogs (-118), per FanDuel Sportsbook. Duke returns many starters from its ACC championship while the Sun Devils have seen a significant number of top performers enter the transfer portal or declare for the NFL Draft.
The over/under is set at 49.5 points with ASU given +134 odds to win the fifth Sun Bowl in program history.
