Arizona State sits firmly in Top 25 after early season success

For the first time in the 2026 season, the Arizona State Sun Devils find themselves in the Top 25 of the D1Baseball.com rankings.

Checking in at No. 22 in this week's rankings with a 17-6 record, taking care of business with a series win on the road at Kansas State gave a boost to the Sun Devils' resume as the calendar marches on to April.

Baseball America showed the Devils even more love with their updated rankings, slotting the Devils in at No. 18 in Monday's update.

The Devils find themselves in between Tennessee (No. 21) and Texas A&M (No. 25), two teams that they fell to in the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series in Arlington earlier this month.

Early season rankings are tough to gauge as many of the national powers have yet to play many road games owing to their favorable home settings to open the season.

An interesting comparison to draw in these rankings is Oklahoma at No. 8. The Sun Devils split their midweek series in Norman at the end of February, but the 19-5 record for the Sooners shows that the conference alignment maybe really does mean more, especially after staying idle in their ranking after a midweek loss on the road to Southeastern Louisiana.

Only one other Big 12 opponent joins the Devils in the Top 25 this week, that being their next conference opponent in West Virginia. At 16-4 overall (5-1 Big 12), the Mountaineers jumped three spots in this week's rankings with a sweep at home of BYU. A game back of West Virginia in the standings, Arizona State has a chance to make some noise both in the conference and national rankings this week.

Five games await the Sun Devils this week, taking on UNLV on the road on Monday and New Mexico State at home in non-conference play before hosting West Virginia in a pivotal weekend series.
