On Wednesday, the Arizona State Sun Devils had another unlucky night, as West Virginia defeated them by 75-63. A game in which they did not shoot efficiently and committed turnovers, as well as lacked discipline.
Firing Squeezers Yank the Stress
Bryce Ford suffered through another bad performance by only going 1-for-7 in the field and all his three-point shots (4/4). His shooting misfortunes since the injury also contributed to the space and scoring issues of the team.
The Sun Devils as a group made just 38.5 percent of their third-quarter shots and made no three-pointers at all in the second half, and missed all five of their three-pointers after the break.
Odum Leads, But Turnovers Hurt
Moe Odum provided the leadership with 17 points and eight assists to Arizona State, but he only made 6 out of 14 shots, which indicates the lack of efficiency in the team. Odum is the main ball-handler, so the second half, which was expensive at 13 total Sun Devil turnovers, kept Odum on the floor and allowed West Virginia to continue controlling the game.
Anthony Johnson gave a momentary burst with a three-point play in one of the late rallies, but the supporting cast failed to supply enough force where it was most needed.
Frontcourt Can’t Contain Mountaineers
Massamba Diop gave a good performance at the individual level as he scored 14 points and 5 rebounds. Nonetheless, the frontcourt of Arizona State may have had a poor defensive performance, which permitted West Virginia to score 23 points by Treysen Eaglestaff as the Mountaineers successfully shot at 51 percent.
