Arizona State redshirt freshman quarterback Sam Leavitt has truly bought into the message head coach Kenny Dillingham is selling to the program. And to prove hit, he's personally investing into the future of the team.
Friday the Sun Angel Collective, the official NIL arm for ASU athletics, announced on social media that Leavitt will be "channeling 100% of his official merchandise royalties" back into the collective which will benefit his current and future teammates through 2025.
Leavitt is one of a few ASU football players who have exclusive merchandise NIL deals where he receives a portion of the proceeds due to his name being used on the products.
Sam Leavitt's generosity is a sign of great leadership for ASU football
The 19-year-old who transferred from Michigan State is showing maturity beyond his years and a giving spirit that demonstrates he's in it for the long haul with Dillingham and ASU football.
Leavitt helped lead the team to a 10-2 regular season record this year, earning it a berth to the Big 12 Championship Game in its first year as a member and a win-and-in opportunity at the College Football Playoff.
His 2,444 passing yards and 21 touchdowns made a huge impact on the course of the season, becoming one of the most efficient and deadly accurate passers in the sport.
Regardless of Saturday's result in Dallas against No. 15 Iowa State, ASU football has broken a decade-long cycle of mediocrity and to see Dillingham's influence rub off on his players is something to celebrate.
Dillingham gifted his own $200,000 bonus for reaching nine wins this season to the off-field staff, originally not telling them it was his own money until the story was leaked by sources with that knowledge.
It is the holiday season and in the spirit of giving, Leavitt's example may lead to more investment in the student athletes and growing future success for ASU athletics.
