After just one week of the transfer portal being open, Kenny Dillingham and the Sun Devils have landed some fresh talent. Clemson redshirt freshman wide receiver Noble Johnson visited Arizona State over the weekend and committed to the Sun Devils not long afterwards.

Johnson was a Texas high school standout out of the Dallas area. He was on the border between being a 3 and 4-star prospect, and ultimately committed to Clemson. He appeared in four games in 2022 but did not record a catch.

Johnson was expected to step into a larger role this year, but he missed most of spring ball with an injury. In limited action, Johnson caught just three passes for 16 yards, while other freshmen and sophomore receivers moved ahead of him on the depth chart. That undoubtedly played a role in Johnson entering the portal.

In Tempe, Johnson will have a greater opportunity to see the field. Outside of standout Jordyn Tyson, the Sun Devils don't have many established receiving talent returning next year. Johnson is teeming with potential, and the way Tyson ascended to stardom in his second season in Tempe could have Johnson excited about his path to development.

Arizona State is likely to add more receivers in the portal, though. Fresno State's Jalen Moss and USC's Duce Robinson are both firmly in the mix, and both would be more logical candidates to step right into a starting role. Still, Johnson will get a chance to compete for a role in this offense next year, which is more than he was going to have at Clemson.
