It was an eventful week of college football, one that saw several huge games between ranked opponents. Arizona State predictably fell out of the AP Top 25, and that was shared in the Top 25 from our own panel here at Devils in Detail, but there was plenty of movement elsewhere too.
1. Ohio State Buckeyes
Ohio State didn't play this week, but they've been the best team in the nation by a wide margin. Of course, that Michigan game looms for the Buckeyes.
2. Indiana Hoosiers
Perhaps the best challenge to Ohio State is the impending Big Ten title game matchup with the Hoosiers, who blew out a much-improved UCLA team this week and looks generally unstoppable.
3. Texas A&M Aggies
How bad did Texas A&M beat LSU? Well, the Tigers fired Brian Kelly on Sunday despite his nearly $54 million buyout. Things are going well in Aggieland.
4. Alabama Crimson Tide
It feels like ages ago that Alabama was upset by Florida State, and they've done nothing but win since. South Carolina gave them a real scare, but the Crimson Tide pulled it out in the end.
5. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
The Yellow Jackets remain undefeated after blowing out Syracuse. Only one of their remaining three ACC opponents has a winning record, so that rivalry game with Georgia looks more and more exciting each week.
6. Ole Miss Rebels
After all the rumors about Lane Kiffin leaving for Florida, the Rebels went out and earned a hard-fought victory over Oklahoma.
7. Oregon Ducks
Given how bad Wisconsin has been this year, a 21-7 win for Oregon feels underwhelming, and our panel didn't like them as much this week with bigger wins from the teams ahead of them.
8. Georgia Bulldogs
Georgia had their bye, but they haven't looked as locked in as they have in previous years under Kirby Smart.
9. Vanderbilt Commodores
Diego Pavia and the Commodores just can't lose. They managed to beat a strong Missouri team and further advance towards a potential SEC title game appearance.
10. Miami Hurricanes
Miami trailed Stanford 7-0 early, but then they turned it on and scored 42 unanswered points to finish out the game.
11. BYU Cougars
BYU trailed Iowa State for most of the game, but a long touchdown drive followed by a pick six helped the Cougars pull it out and remain undefeated on the year.
12. Texas Tech Red Raiders
Behren Morton still isn't back for Texas Tech, but they did get back to their usual ways, blowing out Oklahoma State 42-0 and putting themselves right back into the Big 12 title race.
13. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
A bye week for Notre Dame sees movement only because BYU and Texas Tech played well enough to warrant a move up.
14. Virginia Cavaliers
Virginia needed overtime to beat the terrible Tar Heels, which resulted in a lot of mixed feelings from our panel. One voter had them at 10, while another had them at 20. They settle in here at 14.
15. Tennessee Volunteers
Blowing out Kentucky isn't going to create any believers in the Volunteers, but it's what they're supposed to do.
16. Louisville Cardinals
Louisville followed up their signature win last week with a two-score victory over Boston College, keeping them firmly in the mix in a crowded ACC.
17. Cincinnati Bearcats
Cincinnati remains undefeated in the Big 12, but our panel isn't so high on them. The Bearcats took care of business against Baylor but they only move up a couple spots.
18. Utah Utes
Utah gets back in the Top 25 after just missing out last week. They did unspeakable things to Colorado, leading 43-0 at halftime and reminding everyone why they're a team to be feared.
19. Houston Cougars
Houston jumps into the Top 25 following their win over Arizona State, which was dominant for three quarters before the Cougars had to shut down a comeback attempt.
20. Texas Longhorns
Texas flirted with disaster against Mississippi State, and Arch Manning suffered an injury in the win, but our panel still feels somewhat positive about them.
21. Oklahoma Sooners
Oklahoma looked better offensively with a more healthy John Mateer, but their defense let them down against Ole Miss in this one.
22. Memphis Tigers
Memphis rebounded from being upset by UAB last week with an upset of their own over South Florida, previously the frontrunner for the Group of 5's playoff representation.
23. Michigan Wolverines
Any concerns about yet another upset loss to in-state rival Michigan State were laid to rest with a comfortable victory, and the Wolverines look to be rounding into form.
24. Missouri Tigers
Missouri lost a close one to Vanderbilt, but they get some grace considering quarterback Beau Pribula left early with a nasty injury.
25. Tulane Green Wave
Tulane's only loss is to Ole Miss, which looks better each week. They play Memphis in two weeks, and that game may very well determine the Group of 5 playoff participant.
