Arizona State fans prematurely stormed the field and even took down the goalposts
Arizona State is lucky they ended up getting the big win over No. 14 BYU because they had already taken down the goalposts with a second left in the game.
The Sun Devils are in the hunt for the College Football Playoff at this point as they lead the Big 12, and a big reason for that is because they were able to take down the BYU Cougars today at home, handing them their second straight loss after starting the season 9-0.
The Sun Devils had what seemed like a game-sealing interception with about a minute and a half left in the game, but the Sun Devils technically turned the ball over on downs with one second left in the game.
At that point, the fans had already stormed the field and were in the process of taking down the goalposts. The Cougars had one shot at the endzone, but were unable to get a touchdown to take the lead and the fans got to storm the field twice to celebrate with the team.
Running back Cam Skattebo was the star of the show for the Sun Devils as he was the workhorse for the Sun Devils offense and helped them get the upset win to take over the lead in the Big 12. The senior running back had 147 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns for Arizona State in their win and have now gone from the worst to the best team in the Big 12.
The Sun Devils were projected to finish last in the Big 12 before the season started and are now leading their new conference. Arizona State now heads into rivalry week to take on an Arizona team that has performed all season long and could find themselves in the BGI 12 Championship. That's a real chance at making the College Football Playoff.
