The perfect storm of injuries and literal rain was too much for Arizona State to overcome in a 42-10 rout by the Utah Utes in Salt Lake City on Saturday. The blow out loss was all Associated Press voters needed to see (or hear about, they didn't stay up to watch) to drop the Sun Devils out of the Week 8 Top 25 rankings.

In fact, ASU did not even receive a single vote in the latest poll, that's how bad Saturday's loss was.
Week 8 will be the first time since Week 5 ASU will not be one of the best 25 teams in the nation. It'll also be the fourth week total the program is outside the poll.
Major shakeups in AP Top 25 make CFP race more unpredictable
There were eight, count 'em, eight ranked teams that lost in Week 7. This season has been one with the most parity seen in quite some time and that's just making predictions for the College Football Playoff that much more difficult to make with confidence.
2024-25 CFP darling Indiana now finds itself at No. 3, behind title contenders Ohio State and Miami, after downing Oregon on the road. If you asked any college football fan ahead of the season if head coach Curt Cignetti would be able to repeat what he did last year, let alone do better, I'm not sure you would've found anybody outside of Bloomington, Indiana who would've said yes.
Utah essentially swapped places with ASU and is seated No. 23 with an inside track to the Big 12 Championship Game. Only No. 7 Texas Tech - who will travel to Tempe next week - and No. 15 BYU are higher in the poll from the conference.
The American Athletic Conference remains to be the frontrunner to represent the Group of Five with No. 19 South Florida and No. 22 Memphis inching up in this week's poll.
ASU could still springboard back into the Top 25 this season but it's going to need to pull the upset of No. 7 Texas Tech next Saturday at home to jump start any championship run, just like last year.
