Arizona State returns to the road Saturday, and that's probably a good thing.
The Sun Devils (13-15 overall, 4-13 Big 12) have been horrible this season at Deseret Financial Arena, where they've gone 1-8 in conference games and 5-8 overall.
Two of ASU's remaining three regular-season games are on the road, beginning with Saturday's matchup with Utah (15-12, 7-10) in Salt Lake City.
The Sun Devils have enjoyed recent success at the Jon M. Huntsman Center, winning four of their last five road games against the Utes. However, Utah is 14-3 at home this season.
It's the first and only meeting this season with fellow Big 12 newcomer and former Pac-12 foe Utah, barring a first-round meeting in the conference tournament March 11.
ASU coach Bobby Hurley has won seven of his last nine meetings overall against Utah, including a regular-season sweep in Pac-12 play last season.
Getting another road win over Utah may mean more than a notch in the W column for Hurley, whose future at ASU is uncertain. Sources told Devils in Detail that the university is "exploring financial implications" of moving on from Hurley after his 10th season at ASU.
Utah Director of Athletics Mark Harlan didn't wait until the end of the season to make a change to the Utes' men's basketball program, firing fourth-year head coach Craig Smith on Monday.
First-year assistant coach Josh Ellert is serving as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
Both teams are looking to bounce back from losses Wednesday night, with ASU dropping a 91-81 decision at home to No. 25 BYU, and Utah falling 83-66 at No. 22 Arizona.
The Sun Devils were shorthanded against the Cougars, playing without freshman phenom Jayden Quaintance due to a knee injury and senior guard Alston Mason, who was battling an illness. Quaintance has been ruled out for Saturday's game at Utah.
