March approaches, and the bubble looms for us all.
Exactly one month from today, the first game of March Madness will tip off. There is plenty of basketball left to be played before brackets are drawn up, but Arizona State sits firmly on the bubble. CBS Sports has them as one of the last teams in, while ESPN has them as one of the last teams out.
They'll have a perfect opportunity to boost their resume tonight, as the Sun Devils travel north to face Iowa State. The Cyclones are tied with the Sun Devils for seventh in the Big 12, but they're considered much more of a tournament shoo-in at this point.
That's because Iowa State started out 14-0 this season, led by superstar Audi Crooks, before falling into a rut. They dropped five in a row, but are 6-1 since then, including wins over Texas Tech and Utah. They're also 14-2 at home, tied with Arizona State for third-most home wins among Big 12 teams.
A win tonight would be huge for Arizona State's tournament hopes. A loss wouldn't be catastrophic, but it could end up coming back to bite them in March. This is as close to a must-win as you can get in February.
